Second-ranked ONE flyweight MMA contender Yuya Wakamatsu knows he has the talent and mentality to become an MMA world champion in the home of martial arts.

After winning his last three contests, 'Little Piranha' knows he just needs to keep everything together to bring pride and glory to Japan.

Wakamatsu made his case for the vacant flyweight MMA throne following an inspired performance against tough adversary Gilbert Nakatani at ONE Fight Night 26 last Dec. 6.

The ONE veteran displayed his evolution as a complete martial artist by weathering the California native's onslaught and beating him up in both striking and grappling exchanges.

In his post-event interview with The Bangkok Post's Nick Atkin, the Japanese warrior said competing for 26 pounds of gold in a ONE event in his home country would be a dream come true.

"Of course, yes [I want a title fight in Japan]."

Yuya Wakamatsu also expressed his gratitude to his fans, who stuck with him through the good and bad. He added:

"Thank you for the support. From now on, I will try even harder to be the champion. Keep on supporting me thank you."

Yuya Wakamatsu says he'll fight anyone, anytime for the flyweight MMA crown

ONE matchmakers will indeed have a conundrum in their hands when it comes to who will get the world title shot in the 135-pound MMA division.

Former multi-time flyweight kingpin Adriano Moraes seems to be on lock for the throne Demetrious Johnson vacated after submitting Danny Kingad at ONE 169 last month.

Fourth-ranked contender Reece McLaren is also in the running after his dominant performance over Jarred Brooks at ONE Fight Night 26.

Yuya Wakamatsu, though, believes he earned that right and will go through anyone in his way to realize his dream of becoming a world champion.

'Little Piranha' told The Bangkok Post:

"My next opponent can be anyone. I just want the belt and ONE Championship can just know give me the opponent."

The full replay of ONE Fight Night 26 is available on demand for Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
