ONE strawweight Muay Thai world champion Joseph Lasiri is the current king of the division. However, it wasn't an easy path to stardom for 'The Hurricane', who encountered a lot of adversity early on in his professional career.

Winning the world title at ONE 157 was the pinnacle for the Italian-born striker. Before that, Lasiri was just 3-5 inside the ONE circle.

In a recent interview with ONE, the champ discussed his past adversity, saying:

“Yes [I lost those fights], but I worked all the time. When you win, okay, the emotion is bigger because the people around you are happier, but when I lose, I can look at myself in the mirror without a problem.”

The 31-year-old is currently riding a two-fight winning streak, with wins over Asahi Shinagawa and Prajanchai PK Saenchai. He's now preparing for a mega-fight at ONE on Prime Video 4.

Joseph Lasiri is now comfortable being uncomfortable

'The Hurricane' is scheduled to face flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon later this month. Lasiri will be gunning for double-champ status.

Lasiri has traveled across Europe and Asia in order to broaden his training regime He recently told ONE about the struggles that come along with that:

“Living and working abroad is not easy at all. You are confronted with many uncomfortable experiences, such as being lonely, isolated and facing language barriers. For this reason, this experience was not perfect, but I learned much more to overcome adversity and stand back up every time I failed. Facing your fears is an opportunity to start from scratch and get stronger than before.”

Prior to signing with ONE in 2018, Lasiri secured multiple national titles in Italy, as well as the WBC Muay Thai World championship. Despite his losses in ONE, he is yet to be finished within the promotion. Meanwhile, his two most recent wins were by way of stoppage.

Fans can watch Joseph Lasiri attempt to become a double champ against Rodtang at ONE on Prime Video 4 on November 18, live from Singapore Indoor Stadium.
