Ian Garry last entered the octagon in June when he defeated Michael 'Venom' Page via unanimous decision at UFC 303. It marked his second win of 2024, as he previously beat Geoff Neal via split decision at UFC 298. The No.7-ranked welterweight recently took to Instagram to call out Kamaru Usman, likening the former welterweight champion to his past rival Colby Covington.
'The Nigerian Nightmare' shared footage of himself working on his wrestling with Kill Cliff Fight Club co-founder Greg Jones, captioning the post:
"I’m ready to Slide!! 👊🏿 💪🏿 🫱🏾🫲🏿 @coachgjones"
Garry jumped in the comments, responding:

"Ready? Really? I thought you were built different, but turns out you and Colby are more similar than I thought. Say YES see you December 14th!"

Garry has been targeting a bout with Covington since the two exchanged words leading up to UFC 296 last December. It is unclear if his attention has shifted to Usman. However, it is unlikely that the promotion will have the former champion fight at UFC on ESPN 63. He has not competed outside of a pay-per-view main or co-main event since November 2018 in his final bout before becoming welterweight champion.
Ian Garry claims he recently accepted a bout with Colby Covington
Ian Garry has made it clear that he wants to face Colby Covington, accusing the latter of ducking the potential matchup. He recently claimed that he accepted an offer to face 'Chaos' last month, but nothing came of it, stating:
"A month ago, I was offered a fight with Colby Covington. It took me all of 20 seconds to respond to the email saying, 'Yes, I'm in.' A month later, we've still got no response from Colby. He's avoiding me like the plague and there's one reason and one reason only this fight isn't happening and his name is Colby Covington."

While a bout between Garry and Covington appeared to be close to coming to fruition earlier this year, nothing came of the online back-and-forth between the two fighters. Instead, 'The Future' wound up facing Michael 'Venom' Page at UFC 303. Despite reports that he could face Sean Brady later this year, the No.7-ranked welterweight is looking to pick up a statement win against a big name opponent.
