Ian Machado Garry has not entered the octagon since June as he beat Michael 'Venom' Page via unanimous decision at UFC 303 to remain undefeated. He appeared set to return against Joaquin Buckley at UFC on ESPN 63 next weekend in the first main event of his UFC career. However, he will now take on Shavkat Rakhmonov in a welterweight title eliminator at UFC 310 this weekend.
'The Future' recently accused Kamaru Usman of avoiding a matchup with him. Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, the No.7-ranked welterweight was asked why he believes 'The Nigerian Nightmare' did not accept the bout, responding:
"Usman has a big chest and little b**ls. He looks good... He's got a big chest, he looks good, he plays the part, but where it matters between the legs, he's a little man. That's my outlook on it. He's worried again. Him and Colby [Covington], they're older. They've been through the division. They fought these guys. Now, they're getting to the end of their career and they want to choose the better stylistic matchups."
Garry continued:

"I guarantee this, Usman is going to try to push for a fight with Jack Della Maddalena because he's seen how easily Gilbert Burns was able to take him down. So, for me, if I was in Usman's shoes, why would I want to fight the guy who's long, rangy, difficult to deal with, when I could fight a guy who I've watched two people back-to-back be able to take him down quite easily? I guarantee you Usman's going to try pushing a JDM fight because he's weak-minded."

It is unclear if Usman turned down a bout against Garry, however, it is possible that he did not want to fight outside of the top five. Despite this, it is difficult to claim that the former welterweight champion is cherry-picking opponents as he moved up a weight class to face Khamzat Chimaev on ten days' notice in his last bout.
Michael Bisping weighs in on Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Ian Machado Garry
Ian Machado Garry will have the opportunity to earn a welterweight title shot opportunity when he faces Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 this weekend. Michael Bisping recently shared his thoughts on the clash while speaking on his YouTube channel, stating:
"You've got to have a lot of respect for Ian Garry. He didn't have to take this fight, but can he stop the takedown? Shavkat Rakhmonov, he's very tall for the division, as is Ian Garry. They're both 6-foot-3 and they're both competent strikers. Ian Garry's probably going to dance around the octagon and use the exact same game plan what he did against Geoff Neal. He's got to keep Shavkat Rakhmonov off him. If he can't stop the takedown, he will get finished, and that is no disrespect to Ian Garry."

Bisping added that Garry must keep the fight at a distance and avoid getting into a brawl. He claimed that if the No.7-ranked welterweight is unable to do so, he will get taken down and finished. The UFC Hall of Famer noted that 'The Future' will need to fight a style that may bore fans in order to secure the victory.
