Ilia Topuria has sent Islam Makhachev a message following his UFC 311 submission win over Renato Moicano. The Dagestani fighter faced Moicano on less than one day's notice after Arman Tsarukyan, the original title challenger, withdrew from the clash due to injury.
Makhachev made history by becoming the first fighter to defend the lightweight title four times, surpassing Khabib Nurmagomedov, B.J. Penn and Benson Henderson, who all defended the belt three times. He also tied Kamaru Usman's 15-fight winning streak, and should he win his next two fights, he will break Anderson Silva's UFC record of 16 successive wins.
With 'El Matador' having previously shared his interest in moving from featherweight to lightweight in search of a second belt, Makhachev's recent win has only served to strengthen that desire.
Following the conclusion of UFC 311's main event bout, the Spaniard took to X and posted the following:

Topuria has only defended his featherweight title on one occasion. But having knocked out Alexander Volkanovski to win the belt at UFC 298 before he knocked out Max Holloway at UFC 308, the consensus is that there are no real challenges for 'El Matador' to face at 145 pounds.
Ilia Topuria takes a dig at Dagestani wrestling while congratulating Merab Dvalishvili
Merab Dvalishvili faced off against Umar Nurmagomedov in the UFC 311 co-main event for the bantamweight title. 'The Machine', known for his relentless wrestling, proved to the world why he deservedly held the belt, handing Nurmagomedov his first-ever loss.
Ahead of the bout, 'Young Eagle' questioned Dvalishvili's love for Georgia by pointing out that he did not live nor train in his home country. This only infuriated the 135-pound champion, who delivered a motivated performance at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
Following his victory, which saw the 34-year-old break Georges St-Pierre's UFC record for the most takedowns landed, Ilia Topuria took to X to share his congratulations with Dvalishvili. He wrote:
"Merab, my brother, what a fighter you are! You make us feel so proud. This is what happens when Dagestani wrestling meets Georgian wrestling."
