Ilia Topuria revealed when and who he wants to fight next.
In October 2020, Topuria made his UFC debut against Youssef Zalal. At the time, most people didn't know that Topuria would evolve into a ranked pound-for-pound and revolutionize the featherweight division.
Following a 6-0 promotional start, including four finishes, Topuria received his opportunity to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the 145-pound title. 'El Matador' was called crazy for claiming he'd walk through Volkanovski in February, which he did by securing a stunning second-round knockout.
Eight months later, Topuria returned for his first title defense against the legendary Max Holloway. Once again, the 27-year-old's overconfidence was questioned before he silenced the doubters with a third-round knockout.

Topuria has quickly become one of the biggest superstars in the UFC, making his next fight highly anticipated. During an interview on Chiringuito Inside, the featherweight king revealed his interest in returning in April or May 2025, which was translated by a Twitter account called "Pelunaton."
Topuria also reportedly called for a fight against UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Topuria is listed as the number four-ranked pound-for-pound fighter, with Makhachev holding the number-one spot.

Ilia Topuria's return timeline might not line up with Islam Makhachev
Dana White hasn't been enthusiastic about Ilia Topuria pursuing a second world title without several featherweight defenses. Even if White was on board, Topuria's plan to fight Islam Makhachev next doesn't match his desired April or May return.
On January 18, 2025, Makhachev will defend his lightweight throne in the UFC 311 main event. The pound-for-pound king is expected to face a tough challenge, as he's scheduled for a rematch against Arman Tsarukyan.
Makhachev and Tsarukyan first fought as rising contenders in April 2019, with the reigning lightweight champion winning by unanimous decision.
Therefore, Makhachev would need to avoid any serious damage against Tsarukyan to make a quick turnaround in April or May. Additionally, Makhachev would need time to get back to 100% following Ramadan, which prevents him from fighting in March to the middle of April.
Makhachev vs. Topuria isn't impossible for 2025, but 'El Matador' will likely defend his featherweight title next.
