Caleb Plant has been showcasing to his social media followers that he has been hard at work as his next fight looms closer. Plant, who previously fought Canelo Alvarez, will compete on an Alvarez undercard here with Canelo preparing to fight Edgar Berlanga. Plant looks to work himself back into lineal title contention against Trevor McCumby for the WBA interim super middleweight title.
The former IBF champion is no stranger to gold and Plant seems hungry to capture more gold whilst also positioning himself well to fight either the winner of Alvarez versus Berlanga or David Morrell Jr who holds WBA gold. Plant dropped a photo dump on his personal Instagram page peeling back the curtain a bit into his training camp for fans of the sweet science.

Caleb Plant vs. Trevor McCumby and how we got here
Caleb Plant was initially supposed to throw down against Trevor McCumby this Summer but those plans were dashed. Aug. 17 was the planned date for this prizefight and Plant vs McCumby was supposed to transpire in Orlando, Florida. The latter suffered a cut over his right eye in the lead-up to the bout and it was severe enough that the bout was postponed to a few weeks later.
The 32-year-old will now clash against McCumby on Saturday, Sept. 14 and the fistic fireworks emanate from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Plant has been outside of the ring since March of last year and aims to rebound from a loss on points to David Benavidez.
Conversely for McCumby, he has never been challenged for a world title, and winning this interim belt would be a great accomplishment in and of itself but could also lead him to cement himself as a lineal undisputed champion afterward.
The Tennessee native steps into the ring with a record of 22 wins opposite two defeats while McCumby boasts a spotless record of 28-0 as a professional pugilist.
The only two setbacks in the ring that Plant has experienced were in the aforementioned David Benavidez outing and the previously mentioned Canelo Alvarez fight which was finished in the 11th round during his pursuit of becoming undisputed world champion at 168 pounds.
The pair of losses bookended a massive highlight reel finish of Anthony Dirrell in October 2022 that Plant secured on the Deontay Wilder vs. Robert Helenius card.
