At the last minute, Arman Tsarukyan pulled out of his much-awaited title fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 311.

Despite attending the pre-fight press conference and subsequent faceoff, the Armenian fighter withdrew from the rematch hours before the weigh-ins. In a social media video update, UFC CEO Dana White announced that Tsarukyan was experiencing "significant back pain" and "was not healthy enough to compete."

Tsarukyan's brother later revealed that he sustained the injury while cutting the last few pounds before hitting the scale.

Renato Moicano, originally scheduled to face Beneil Dariush on the main card, stepped up on short notice to challenge Makhachev for the belt. He fell short of what would've been an incredible feat as the Dagestani phenom finished him with a clinical D'Arce choke in the first round on Saturday, June 18.

However, the injury did not keep Tsarukyan from reacting on social media. He took to X to congratulate Makhachev and send words of encouragement to Umar Nurmagomedov, who lost the co-main title fight to Merab Dvalishvili:

"Congratulations to @MAKHACHEVMMA on the victory, and keep your head up, @UNmgdv - better days are ahead!"

He also sent a message to Dvalishvili separately:

"Congrats to @MerabDvalishvil! Today, you dance alone, but soon I'll be joining you."

Arman Tsarukyan won't get an automatic title shot again immediately

In the post-fight press conference, Dana White clarified that Arman Tsarukyan will not be rewarded with an immediate rebooking for a championship fight against Islam Makhachev. He will need to go back to the drawing board and win his way back to the title shot.

Tsarukyan tweeted in response, agreeing with White's verdict and calling out Charles Oliveira instead.

Michael Chandler, who seems to be gradually moving on from the Conor McGregor fight, issued a callout to which Tsarukuan said:

"I'm not against it, but fighting someone who beat you twice sounds way more compelling."
