Even at heavyweight, 'Drago' is often seen towering above his opponents by at least a few inches. At 6 feet and 7 inches, Alexander Volkov is currently the tallest active fighter on the UFC roster.

That brings us to the question of who is the tallest fighter in UFC history. Readers might be somewhat surprised to learn that Volkov lost the race for the spot by a substantial margin despite his long 6'7" frame.

While Struve is a shocking 5 inches taller than Alexander Volkov, the dutch ground fighting legend isn't the only UFC fighter in history taller than 'Drago'. Kickboxer Semmy Schilt, only an inch shorter than Struve (6'11"), competed in two UFC fights in 2001 where he defeated Pete Williams and lost to Josh Barnett.

Other fighters from the early UFC days like Gan McGee (6'10"), Wes Sims (6'10"), Dan Christison (6'8"), Emmanual Yarborough (6'8") and former heavyweight champ Tim Sylvia (6'8") were all taller than Volkov.

Tallest active UFC fighter Alexander Volkov talks about a potential fight against Jon Jones

Alexander Volkov recently took on Moldovan phenom Alexandr Romanov in the co-main event at UFC Las Vegas, which went down at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Paradise, Nevada.

'Drago' displayed excellent takedown defense (marred by a fence grab warning) in riding out the initial pressure from the 264 lbs. Romanov, who soon looked exhausted. Volkov capitalized on a desperate dive from 'King King' to take the Moldovan's back and unleashed lethal ground and pound to bring a stop to the contest at 2:16 of round 1.

This made it back-to-back first-round stoppage wins for 'Drago', who is currently ranked eighth on the heavyweight ladder. While Volkov knows that he has a long way to go, the Russian veteran hopes to someday fight Jon Jones, who recently returned to the octagon. The 44-year-old recently told the UFC:

“I’m not joking myself. I understand what my position is in the division. I know I have to still go through a lot of obstacles to get to Jon Jones, but when I get there and if I get there, I think our fight would be very competitive and I think I could really show him an interesting, competitive fight.”
