Andrew Tate was born in Washington, D.C. in 1986. His parents later divorced and he and his brother Tristan moved to England with their mother, where the controversial internet personality started to learn kickboxing. He holds both US and British citizenship.
'Cobra' would eventually move to Romania in 2017, conducting a multitude of his businesses in the European country. His ventures include a webcam studio, which employs up to 75 women, cryptocurrency, and an affiliate marketing scheme.
Tate was arrested in December last year whilst at home in Romania. He and his brother were picked up in a police probe and have been accused of rape, human trafficking and conspiring to form a criminal group. The pair have denied all allegations, stating there is a lack of evidence. However, the Romanian government has continued to incarcerate them whilst investigating.

With Andrew Tate having been born in the United States, lived in the United Kingdom and now conducting business in Romania, there has been a question about his taxpayer status.
According to Tate, he's found a way around the system. 'Cobra' appeared on the Strike It Big podcast in what was his final interview before his arrest. During the show, Tate alluded that his businesses are primarily online but are "based" in Dubai, which has 0% income tax:
"I think the tax residency is 180 days... Let's say you had an online company which is based out of Dubai and you make the money online which is banked in Dubai. You don't owe anything, you don't owe a penny. So why wouldn't you do it? That's what's so amazing to me."

Andrew Tate is approaching his fourth month inside of a jail cell, having been arrested on December 29 last year.
Tate and his lawyers have continued to apply for bail, but the Romanian courts have regularly denied them. This means that between the months of March and April, Andrew Tate will be observing the fast for the holy month of Ramadan from inside his cell.
Tate's Twitter account provided an update on the situation, explaining that he had to cover his food in plastic bags to stay in accordance with Ramadan:
"My food comes at 8am, noon and 5pm I have a plastic bag I use to try and protect the food from insects I spend my entire day destroying the flies and ants who get close to the meal In accordance w/ Ramadan When the sun goes down, I eat the stone cold food in my cell by myself"
Ali Abdelaziz, a devout Muslim, offered his support to 'Cobra' on Twitter. The Dominance MMA CEO replied to Tate's tweet stating that he must be "strong":
"Be strong, my brother"
"Allah with you brother"
