UFC superstar Conor McGregor is not fighting former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 290. Earlier today, fight fans around the world were tricked by a tweet from a fake Ariel Helwani account that 'broke' the news.
The news, however, has since been confirmed to be fake, with Helwani himself making a light-hearted joke about the incident on Twitter:
"Gee, I’m shocked someone made a fake account, spent the 8 bucks to get verified and fooled everyone. Who could have predicted such a thing? What a surprise! Great job, @elonmusk. Burn it to the ground, baybay."

Conor McGregor teases fighting multiple times next year
In a recent tweet, Conor McGregor teased his plans to have multiple fights next year. 'Notorious' shared that once filming for his Hollywood debut 'Road House' wraps, he'll be back to fighting:
"I’m feeling crazy confident. Calm. Disattached from emotion. Aware of what I must do and making it happen. Visualizing. I see it all. Clear. This movie wraps, I’m back. I’ll have multiple fights completed by the time this movie even releases."
'Road House' is expected to premiere in the second half of 2023 so McGregor might be planning to return to the UFC earlier in the year.
While multiple opponents, including lightweight contender Michael Chandler, have been touted as the Irishman's opponent for his comeback fight, the UFC hasn't made any official announcement yet.
McGregor is 22-6 as a professional mixed martial artist and is currently on a two-fight skid.
