The UFC kicked off 2023 with a bang with UFC Fight Night: Strickland vs. Imavov and UFC 283. Two new undisputed champions have been crowned in the two events so far, with plenty of blockbuster matchups lined up for the rest of the year.
Although there is no UFC fight tonight, the next scheduled event is a Fight Night event on February 5, which will be held at the UFC Apex facility in Enterprise, Nevada. UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivac will be headlined by heavyweight contenders Derrick Lewis and Sergey Spivac.
The two fighters are at opposite ends of the spectrum with their latest results. Lewis is on a two-fight losing skid, while Spivac has won his last two fights and will look to extend the streak and break into the top 10 in the contender's rankings.

The co-main event will feature unranked light heavyweights Jung Da-un and Devin Clark in a clash between very experienced mixed martial artists. Another heavyweight bout between Marcin Tybura and Blagoy Ivanov will make for an interesting contest on the night.
Choi Doo-ho will take on Kyle Nelson in a featherweight matchup, while Yusaku Kinoshita and Adam Fugitt will round off the main card with a welterweight fight. The event was originally meant to be held in South Korea, with an abundance of fighters from the country competing on the preliminary and main cards.
Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev clash in their much-awaited championship bout at UFC 284
The weekend following the Lewis vs. Spivac Fight Night card, we will see Alexander Volkanovski take on Islam Makhachev for the lightweight championship on his home turf in Perth, Australia. The much-awaited pay-per-view will also see Josh Emmett and Yair Rodriguez clash in a featherweight bout.
The two champions will fight for the lightweight championship and their respective pound-for-pound rankings. Volkanovski currently sits atop the pound-for-pound list with Makhachev right under him, but the Dagestani is heavily favored to overcome his Australian opponent.
In a recent interview with Israel Adesanya's brother (David Adesanya), 'The Great' revealed that he loves his new-found status as the underdog in the fight:
“I love that. Everyone says that, ‘I love being the underdog,’ but I do. That’s the challenge, being the underdog, proving the doubters and the haters, all that type of stuff — I don’t let it really get to me, but I let it get to me enough where I’m like, ‘Alright, I’m going to train a little bit harder, I’m going to shut these guys up, and I’m going to go out there and do it.’ It makes me want those fights. Those are fights that I want."
The 34-year-old also cited the lack of competition in his own division, having cleanly swept his nearest contender Max Holloway 3-0.
