Makhachev currently holds the No. 1 spot in the P4P rankings. In his recent octagon outing at UFC 302 in June, the 33-year-old made his third title defense against Dustin Poirier.

He submitted Poirier via a D’arce choke in the fifth round, derailing the 35-year-old's dream of becoming an undisputed UFC champion. However, Makhachev suffered from a partial ligament tear in his hand during the fight, which has prevented him from competing ever since.

According to recent developments, Makhachev is expected to face former opponent Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 311 in January next year. Notably, Tsarukyan also discussed his next fight in an interview with TNT Sports, hinting at a rematch with Makhachev.

Clay Guida believes Islam Makhachev will become the lightweight GOAT with a potential win against Arman Tsarukyan

Clay Guida recently expressed his thoughts on the greatest fighters in the lightweight division in an interview with Inside Fighting.

Guida felt that Islam Makhachev, expected to make his fourth title defense against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 311, would cement himself as the lightweight GOAT if he defeats Tsarukyan.

He said:

''Here is the deal, if he can get past Arman Tsarukyan, chances are he is going to be the greatest lightweight of all time cause I don’t see anyone getting in his way for a while.''
