UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev recently posted a video of when his former opponent Dustin Poirier knocked out Conor McGregor in Abu Dhabi in 2021. The bout was a rematch between 'The Diamond' and 'The Notorious', which took place in Abu Dhabi.

The KO finish was the first time McGregor was ever knocked out in his career. Ahead of UFC Abu Dhabi last week, UFC Europe posted highlight videos of memorable battles in the UAE capital, including McGregor-Poirier II:

Mkahachev posted the Poirier win on his Instagram stories, together with a four-word copy that said:

Makhachev faced Poirier last June at UFC 302 in Newark, New Jersey. After a hard-fought battle, the champ finished his challenger via a brabo choke in the fifth round.

Makhachev's friend and mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, submitted McGregor in the most-watched MMA fight of all time at UFC 229 in 2018, tapping the Irishman with a neck crank in round four.

Islam Makhachev open to facing Max Holloway if Arman Tsarukyan rematch doesn't materialize

Appearing at UFC Abu Dhabi last weekend, Islam Makhachev answered some burning questions by the media. When asked who will he fight next after his dominant win over Dustin Poirer at UFC 302 weeks ago, the Dagestani world champion mentioned two names. First was a rematch with the surging Arman Tsarukyan and a possible cross-over super-fight with BMF champion Max Holloway.

Makhachev said:

"Why not? I already beat Arman. If UFC puts him next, that’s no problem. But, I’m not excited [that] much. I need new name, new challenger, I already beat Arman. If Max wants, let’s do it. I don’t need his [BMF] belt, but Max is a good name. It’s going to be a crazy fight for the fans.”
