Islam Makhachev recently took aim at Daniel Cormier for promoting fast food and unhealthy eating habits and suggested that he take a page from Cristiano Ronaldo. The reigning lightweight champion highlighted the importance of being aware of food and practicing healthy eating habits and the impact on one's health.
The Dagestani has constantly joked about 'DC's' physique, especially considering he was a former two-division UFC champion and had a decorated wrestling background. Makhachev and Cormier are great friends and teammates at AKA and have had several hilarious exchanges that have gone viral on social media.
While speaking to CBS Sports' Shakiel Mahjouri, Makhachev addressed the jibes he took at the UFC Hall of Famer in virtual reality. The 33-year-old mentioned that Cormier could have still competed if he changed his diet. He also believes that Cormier should follow Ronaldo's example, considering the impressive results it has had on the soccer legend's career:
"I really believe if [Cormier] eat clean all his life, he can still keep fighting. But this guy, not eating, he promote fast food and all this stuff and still promote it couple months ago, he put some video about fast food. I said, 'Hey, stop! You don't have to eat this because you're so big now. This is the big problem because look at Cristiano Ronaldo how old he is, but he's still in very good shape. Food is very important things...for any sports, it's number one." [1:26]

Islam Makhachev's latest jibe at Daniel Cormier wasn't the first time as he once shared his reaction to his AKA teammate's special guest referee appearance in WWE.
While speaking to CBS Sports' Shakiel Mahjouri in 2022, Makhachev reacted to a photo of Cormier in a WWE referee uniform and took a jibe at his physique. He said:
"Look at this fat guy...[Cormier] cannot compete anymore, he's a referee right now. Smart guy. He don't have to be [in] good shape...Do some easy stuff...He wants to eat all day burgers, chips. This guy so smart."
