Islam Makhachev stands at 5'10" inches like 'do Bronx'. He also weighed in at 154.5 lbs at the official weigh-ins. The southpaw, however, has a significantly lesser reach at 70 inches.

The Russian holds a pro-MMA record of 22 wins against 1 loss. He has been undefeated since 2016 and is currently on a 10-fight win streak.

Another small detail that makes this a dream matchup is the fact that both men are extremely proficient grapplers. While the Brazilian is one of the best jiu-jitsu practitioners on the entire UFC roster, Makhachev is a former combat sambo world champion.

Charles Oliveira tells Daniel Cormier that he felt disrespected by Islam Makhachev's team in the lead-up to UFC 280

In a recent interview with Daniel Cormier, former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira stated that he felt disrespected by how Islam Makhachev's team tried to sell the title fight.

The Brazilian told the former two-division champion:

"I do think it was very disrespectful. I think the way that they sold the fight was a little too much. I mean it's from Islam it's from Khabib [Nurmagomedov] from the team. The way they sold this thing the way they talked about it, it was too much... the tone of voice, the delivery was not good. So yes I feel that they disrespected me."

In a recent interaction with Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman at the venue of Eagle FC 47, Khabib Nurmagomedov stated that Oliveira's ground game is nowhere near as polished as Islam Makhachev's. 'The Eagle' added that his protege was going to mount the Brazilian like a horse and put a thorough beating on him when they finally meet in the cage:

"You grip him with you leg, like [riding a] horse you know ... and with your arm you punch...This is what Islam [is] going to do to Charles Oliveira, he’s going to ride him... Alot of people underestimate Islam. They think Oliveira has [good] ground game. He doesn't have ground game."
