Islam Makhachev wants Ilia Topuria to stay away from personal remarks.
The Spaniard has called for high-profile fights against popular fighters like Conor McGregor and Makhachev in recent times. His persistence seems to have caught the attention of the lightweight champion.
According to @HomeofFight's recent post on X, Makhachev told MatchTV:
"If Topuria continues in the same spirit, he may play himself out. Something may happen. So far I have not seen anyone cross any personal boundaries, so far nothing like that has happened. He needs to focus on his weight class and defending his belt at least once."

Makhachev's statement seems to have come in response to Topuria's recent comments about testing himself in the 155-pound weight class. During an online Q&A session, 'El Matador' said that he could try his hand at lightweight. He also implied that he would get the better of Makhachev in a street fight but wanted to fight him in a sanctioned bout to avoid "paying his medical bills".
Ilia Topuria engages in a war of words with Islam Makhachev's teammate Usman Nurmagomedov
Islam Makhachev's close associate and Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov did not take kindly to Ilia Topuria's comments about getting into a street fight. In an Instagram story, Nurmagomedov took a jab at the Spaniard, writing:
"When did you ever fight in the streets, European boy?"
@RedCorner_MMA re-posted Nurmagomedov's statement on X. Replying to the post, Topuria wrote:
"It has been a long time, to be honest. How are you doing with drugs? Are you still on steroids?"
Topuria's remarks refer to the controversy surrounding Nurmagomedov's failed drug test. The 26-year-old once tested positive for a prescription drug that contained a banned substance. The athletic commission suspended him for six months but did not strip him of the title due to accidental ingestion.
While Topuria has been engaged in a war of words with the Nurmagomedov-Makhachev camp, he has a big test ahead. The Spaniard won the featherweight title with a second-round KO of Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298. He is set to attempt his first title defense against former champion Max Holloway at UFC 308 on Oct. 26.
