Mayssa Bastos is delighted to be the new owner of the prestigious ONE atomweight submission grappling world championship.

The nine-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion claimed the sport's biggest prize after coming out on top in her showdown with Danielle Kelly, which served as the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 24 inside the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, last week.

Their single-round duel had its fair share of drama, nail-biting action, and world-class submission grappling as both BJJ black belts went to hell and back to gain an advantage over one another.

But in the end, Mayssa Bastos' pressure, action, and ability to get herself into better positions saw her clinch a unanimous decision over the Silver Fox BJJ athlete, who was left heartbroken after witnessing her undefeated journey in the promotion come to an end.

Pointing at where she thinks she impressed the judges, Mayssa Bastos told Sportskeeda MMA:

"I can't think of whether it was the last minute, I don't know if I was spinning, but I remember I was able to catch her heel. I think it was the best catch of the match."

Apart from going 2-0 under the promotional spotlight, the Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy star earned a US$50,000 performance bonus for her victory.

Mayssa Bastos says world title win great for her legacy

As an athlete who strives for perfection, Mayssa Bastos is never one to slow down in her quest for greatness.

From the day the 26-year-old put pen to paper to join the world's largest martial arts organization, she had only one goal—to conquer the atom weight submission grappling division.

On what this win means to her, the Brazilian continued:

"It's special because I'm the first Brazilian to ever win [the ONE grappling title], especially because it was a title that I did not have yet, and also [it's] for my legacy. So I think that's it."
