T.J. Dillashaw recently weighed in on the featherweight title clash between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway at UFC 308. He assessed the striking combinations and pinpointed one key mistake that cost the 'BMF' title holder the bout.
'El Matador' successfully retained his featherweight championship for the first time by becoming the first to knock 'Blessed' out. Topuria secured takedowns and then showcased his power during their exchanges and dropped Holloway with a left hook before finishing him with ground strikes. Despite being knocked out, the Hawaiian still had a great performance early on and had some success with his jabs.
During JAXXON PODCAST's UFC 308 recap, the former bantamweight champion highlighted what he considered to be the turning point of the fight. Dillashaw mentioned that Holloway got too comfortable in the standup, which resulted in Topuria finding an opening and capitalizing in the third round:
"I think [Holloway] got too comfortable in the second round, he started piecing [Topuria] up, right? He's using his distance, he had a great jab...and Max is a volume guy. His volume's working, he gets better and better as the fight goes on and I think when it got into the third round, he got a little comfortable. And Topuria's fast as fu*k, he did that slapping hook to get his hands away from his face with that overhand right and it changed everything."

Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson sheds light on mistake Max Holloway made after getting rocked
In addition to T.J. Dillashaw's assessment of what went wrong for Max Holloway, Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson also shed light on a mistake the Hawaiian made that resulted in his defeat.
During the aforementioned clip, Jackson mentioned that Topuria was successful with his calf kicks as they resulted in Holloway having to second guess his attacks and didn't have the proper response after getting rocked by the champion:
"I felt those calf kicks [by Topuria] crept up on [Holloway], right? It distracted him a little bit. And then when he got rocked with that overhand, he never really recovered from that. That's when you're supposed to bring your hands up and get your time back and he never did that."
