“It was f***in’ bananas!” - Demetrious Johnson in awe of heavyweight MMA champ ‘Reug Reug’s hero’s welcome in Senegal 

Demetrious Johnson was shocked to see the hometown parade that 'Reug Reug' Oumar Kane received.

On Nov. 8, 'Reug Reug' made history by securing a split decision win against Anatoly Malykhin for the ONE heavyweight MMA world title. The Senegalese powerhouse became the fourth champion in the division's history and handed Malykhin his first professional MMA loss.

Following his special accomplishment, 'Reug Reug' returned to Senegal and received a well-deserved parade with thousands of people.

ONE Championship legend Demetrious Johnson reacted to the scenes by saying this during a video on his YouTube channel:

"When you became a champion, there was no parade. This man [Reug Reug] comes home back to his country and it was f***in’ bananas! That’s the thing, like mixed martial arts in some parts of the world is still small. It’s still not big. He comes home and it’s just massive! A celebration!"

Earlier this year, Demetrious Johnson officially returned from mixed martial arts. The living legend walked away as a former 12-time UFC flyweight world champion, a former ONE flyweight world champion, the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix winner, and one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Who should 'Reug Reug' Oumar Kane defend heavyweight title against?

'Reug Reug' Oumar Kane has a bright future heading into 2025 after becoming the ONE heavyweight MMA world champion. With that said, the Senegalese superstar's battle with Anatoly Malykhin might not be over.

Malykhin remains a two-sport MMA world champion (middleweight and light heavyweight). The Russian powerhouse plans to pursue a rematch against 'Reug Reug' before defending his other two straps.

'Reug Reug' narrowly defeated Malykhin by split decision, warranting a rematch for the first half of 2025. ONE Championship might be interested in making the must-see second fight or pursuing a different rematch.

In August 2023, Marcus 'Buchecha' Almeida suffered his lone professional MMA loss against 'Reug Reug.' Almeida has since bounced back with a first-round submission against top contender Amir Aliakbari.

Almeida has arguably deserved another chance to defeat 'Reug Reug,' with the heavyweight MMA world title making things more interesting.
