Bastos opened up to ONE Championship about her life-long BJJ history:
"I think my career has had many victories and few losses. Since I started, I have been training a lot. I spent a lot of time at the gym and was always competing. I've lived only from jiu-jitsu since I was little."
But it was not enough. Bastos was forged by the unforgiving jiu-jitsu scene in Brazil, where she spent most of her youth:
"On weekends in Brazil, there was always a lot of jiu-jitsu competition, and there was a weekend where I participated in two competitions on the same day. I kept keeping the pace of competition until the black belt, and it helped me grow as an athlete."
Mayssa Bastos believes she will improve after fighting Danielle Kelly
Just like any other top athletes, Mayssa Bastos is not satisfied with her current level.
The multiple-time BJJ world champion has continuously seeking for better game, and she strongly believes that her world title fight with Danielle Kelly will allow that to happen.
In a recent interview with Sportskeeda MMA, Bastos said that challenging Kelly for the ONE atomweight submission grappling world title will be her best opportunity to improve her overall game.
She said:
"Yeah, for sure. Like I feel it’s a good challenge and it’s going to help me grow and yeah, I’m just really excited for the challenge."
