Usman Nurmagomdeov gives his take on Umar Nurmagomedov's defeat affecting his upcoming title fight

Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov is among the top acquisitions for the PFL after it acquired Bellator in 2023. Nurmagomedov is set to defend his title against Paul Hughes at the PFL Road To Dubai Champions Series. A major talking point in the lead-up to the fight has been Umar Nurmagomedov's loss to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 311, where the Russian failed to capture the bantamweight gold.

Usman, Umar's younger brother speaking to TalkSport MMA, confirmed that he won't let the result affect his performance. He acknowledged it was hard to watch his brother lose but asserted he would beat Hughes. He said:

"It was tough time, hard time for me. But we agree with what happens with us. Doesn't matter -- good stuff, bad stuff. Alhamdulillah. It [didn't] make me weak ... It's made me more mentally strong. And I have to win this, my fight."
