Sean Strickland has shed light on a surprising training habit during his recent conversation with social media influencer and UFC personality, Nina-Marie Daniele. Strickland notably addressed the jockstrap (aka groin protector/groin guard/protective cup) he utilizes in his training and segued into how his approach toward hygiene keeps him strong.
In a vlog posted to Daniele's YouTube channel, the duo were seen partaking in various activities, including a sparring session. During a segment, the MMA fighter appeared to adjust his stance in a peculiar manner, which led to Daniele giving him a rather curious look.
Strickland responded by indicating that he was adjusting the protective cup he'd donned. 'Tarzan' claimed that he hadn't "washed this cup in a month." He stated:
"I'll tell you, guys. No one washes their cup. I got the Thai cup with the string that goes up the a**hole, so you don't really ..."

Daniele chimed in and asked if it's indeed designed as such and whether people wash it. She then questioned Strickland why he doesn't wash it, to which he replied:
"I'm going to wash occasionally. I got a few of them. But it's like, you've got a couple of days without washing it ... I wipe my a** like an adult, Nina. I'm very cleanliness [sic] ..."
While Strickland laughed, Daniele indicated that she watched him kick his mouthguard across the floor and put it in his mouth. 'Tarzan' then asked her if she thought he'd get "mat he*pes" from having done that, to which she asserted that he could be afflicted by a bacterial infection in his gums. Strickland seemed to jokingly suggest that questionable hygiene toughens a person:
"It keeps you f**king strong. It keeps you strong ... This is the problem with you f**king soy boys, little COVID, and vaccine f*gs. ... You guys are so afraid of germs. It keeps you f**king strong. I don't get sick, Nina. I'm a grown-a** f**king man."
Strickland proceeded to put his mouthpiece on the mat and then into his mouth. The 33-year-old jestingly implied that he does get sick, but he added that his body rebounds well because he's a strong man. Having often discussed COVID-19, he jokingly suggested that he was immune to it and supposedly got COVID five times.

Sean Strickland alluded to questionable hygiene standards in a past conversation with Nina-Marie Daniele
Sean Strickland is currently booked to fight reigning UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis in a rematch for the title at UFC 312 in Sydney, Australia, on Feb. 9, 2025 (local time in Australia).
Strickland's aforementioned vlog with Nina-Marie Daniele was filmed during his fight camp for the du Plessis rematch. Incidentally, Strickland previously made similar assertions about his hygiene standards in a conversation with Daniele.
On one hand, some believed Sean Strickland could be joking or making hyperbolic claims. Alternatively, others criticized him.
As indicated in an X post by Daniele in 2024, Strickland offered an NSFW explanation about why he hadn't showered for three days:
"Why do I need to take a shower if I'm not training? My woman's not here. Am I getting s**ked off? What's the f**king point?"
