The card for ONE Championship’s debut in the United States is filling up and Martin Nguyen wants in.
Despite having a fight booked for next week in Bangkok, 'The Situ-Asian' is already looking ahead to May when the promotion touches down in Colorado for ONE Fight Night 10.
Ahead of his fight with Shamil Gasanov next week, Martin Nguyen spoke to ONE Championship about his eagerness to get a spot on the Colorado card and why that makes sense for him:
"In any ONE Championship event. I want to be a part of it. The US obviously, I’m here training. It makes sense, I go straight from training camp, straight to the fight instead of traveling back home."

Martin Nguyen currently lives and trains in south Florida at Deerfield Beach’s Kill Cliff FC. One of his teammates, Aung La N Sang, is already booked for the May card against Fan Rong. In addition, fellow south Florida fighter Adriano Moraes, who trains at American Top Team, will fight in the main event against Demetrious Johnson.
Before he can compete in Colorado, he will first travel back to Asia to fight undefeated Russian Shamil Gasanov next week at ONE Fight Night 7.
Martin Nguyen opens up about sacrificing family time during holidays to train
Fighting at the beginning of the year can be a challenging season for fighters as training camps overlap with major holidays.
Martin Nguyen had to make some difficult decisions to delay time with family to commit to his craft, as he will fight at the end of February.
Nguyen spoke about the sacrifice he made this past holiday season to stay in Florida to train rather than return home to family in an interview with ONE Championship, saying:
"Christmas and New Year were very hard. This is my first Christmas, New Year, and Boxing day away from family. Usually, during Boxing Day, I go see my dad - that's the date that he passed away so we got to spend this time with him. Obviously, being over in Florida, I missed all of that. So, it's very hard. And then with all the family festive seasons that occurred. Being at the family events over the year kind of made me miss my family even more. So. It's been very tough."
The former ONE world champion is banking on those sacrifices paying off if he can upset the 13-0 Gasanov next week in Bangkok. Perhaps, the time away from family has given Nguyen extra motivation to win big and take home some bonus checks for his family.
ONE Fight Night 7 goes down from the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium on February 24th. The event streams on Amazon Prime in North America during the US prime time.
