Filipino-American fighter Jackie Buntan is excited to capture the inaugural ONE women's strawweight kickboxing world title this weekend. And to do it at the famed Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand will make it more special.

The 27-year-old Boxing Works standout will try to lay her hands on the strawweight kickboxing gold at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. 'Reug Reug' on Nov. 8. She is up against seasoned Algerian-French kickboxer Anissa Meksen.

In an interview with Beyond Kick ahead of her title bid, Buntan spoke about the significance of fighting for a world title at Lumpinee, considering the venue used to have a tradition of not allowing women to touch the ring, let alone fight in it.

She said:

"Oh, it would mean everything. I was grateful to fight in Lumpinee for the first time earlier this year on an all-women's card on International Women's Day. That was a very, very big deal. Being able to do it again with the magnitude of this fight, it's really cool to be part of history."

ONE 169 will mark the second time that Jackie Buntan will vie for a world title following her failed bid for the inaugural women's strawweight Muay Thai world title in April 2022, when she lost by decision to Sweden's Smilla Sundell.

She has since bounced back from the defeat, racking up three straight wins, the last one in March this year over Martine Michieletto by decision.

ONE 169 will be aired live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.

Kickboxing-debuting Jackie Buntan confident she can hold her own at ONE 169

Jackie Buntan is making a big splash in her kickboxing debut, going for a world title at ONE 169. However, she is confident of delivering following the good camp she had.

The Califiornia-based striker will be vying for the inaugural ONE women's strawweight kickboxing world title against veteran kickboxer Anissa Meksen. It is one of the title fights on offer at the stancked event.

In an interview with Sportskeeda MMA, Buntan shared the kind of preparation she had for her title bid, saying:

"At first, it took a bit but I found my grrove with it. You're gonna see my actual style. I think I'm a very adaptable fighter if I have to change things on the fly."

At ONE 169, Jackie Buntan will be up against an opponent in Meksen who has a lot of kickboxing matches under her belt and won a number of titles along the way.
