Newly crowned ONE interim strawweight MMA world champion 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks of the United States is coming off a spectacular first-round submission victory ovr former Cuban Olympic wrestler 'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart last weekend.
The 31-year-old Mash Fight Team representative tapped out his opponent with a brilliant rear-naked choke to capture the division's interim throne. And Brooks says it was all about making the right adjustments mid-fight, especially when Balart proved to be a formidable challenger.
Speaking to veteran ONE Championship broadcast analyst 'The Dragon' Mitch Chilson in the ring after his fight, Brooks talked about overcoming Balart's challenge.

'The Monkey God' said:
"Whenever he goes against anybody, you see it. He’s got great boxing skills. He’s been working with Cuban Olympians his whole camp so I had to adjust, like I said in our interviews - it’s all about adjustments and adaptation."
Brooks then went on to thank his coaches for their help, especially the advice they gave in his corner.
He added:
"Thank you so much Alex, thank you so much James, thank you so much, Bryan, for being in my corner, for giving me amazing corner advice and helping me stay calm in a bad situation."

Jarred Brooks expected to make light work of Gustavo Balart, but he was met with much resistance in their strawweight MMA showdown.
As such, the American star had to give Balart his due, and praised the Cuban veteran for doing something no one else has done before.
'The Monkey God' said:
"Much respect to Gustavo Balart. That dude is an animal. He put me on my back for the first time in my whole career. So hats off to him."
