Speaking during a pre-event interview for ONE Fight Night 7, the 33-year-old fighter shared that for him there is no middle ground when he competes as he is trying to go all out each time:
“It's always been all or nothing, no matter what. But in this case, it's a bit stricter, a bit more serious now. It's always been an all-or-nothing kind of thing now. I want to get myself back into title contention and do whatever it takes.”
Martin Nguyen has hit a rough patch of late but remains undeterred and determined to prove that he still has it to compete at a high level against the best in the field.
For ONE Fight Night 7, he chose to train in the United States at Kill Cliff FC in Florida, away from family in Australia, to get the best preparation possible.
Looking to trip Martin Nguyen in his title contention push is Shaydullaev, a late-replacement opponent who is making his ONE debut. He boasts of an impressive 9-0 record, with all of his wins coming by way of finishes.
ONE Fight Night 7 will take place at the famed Lumpinee Boxing Stadium and will be aired live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.
Martin Nguyen says he’s laser-focused training in South Florida
Veteran fighter Martin Nguyen knows he is at a key juncture in his fighting career and that he must be at his utmost best to continue to figure prominently in his division.
For his return match at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video on February 24 in Bangkok, the former two-division world champion decided to set up camp in South Florida, U.S.A., at Kill Cliff FC. It was a move he said he was glad to have made.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Martin Nguyen said Kill Cliff FC provided the atmosphere he needed to stay laser-focused in his training for his upcoming fight.
'The Situ-Asian' said:
“Yeah, the beauty of it is I get no distractions over here. I can just focus on training. Eat, sleep, and train, eat, sleep, and train. Just the environment is different, and the coaches' energy is different. Everything is different when you come over here. You know you're going in and you know you're going to get good work every single day. It's not like you're going to come into training.”
At Kill Cliff FC, Martin Nguyen got the chance to train with some of the top fighters in the world competing under different promotions, including fellow former ONE two-division world champion Aung La N Sang.
He said he learned a lot during his stay there, sharpening his skills and drawing inspiration and motivation from his fellow fighters.
