20-year-old American jiu-jitsu phenom Cole Abate made his successful ONE Championship debut last weekend, turning in a lightning-quick submission of a legendary Japanese MMA fighter.
Abate tapped out former multi-time ONE lightweight MMA world champion 'Tobikan Judan' Shinya Aoki just a little over two minutes into their highly anticipated matchup, getting the win with a heel hook.
The two met at ONE Fight Night 26: Lee vs. Rasulov on Prime Video on Saturday. It was Abate's first match in the world's largest martial arts organization, and according to the Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy product, it was more than he had expected.

He told veteran ONE Championship broadcast analyst Mitch 'The Dragon' Chilson in the ring after his bout:
"It's incredible, you know? ONE is one of the biggest platforms in all of combat sports. So for this to be my debut, for it to be against such a top level opponent was amazing."
Abate no doubt impressed in his first outing in ONE Championship, and already, the hype behind the 20-year-old phenom is immediately on the rise.
ONE Fight Night 26: Lee vs. Rasulov on Prime Video was broadcast live from the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand this past Saturday, Dec. 7. Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action via replay on-demand with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.

20-year-old BJJ star Cole Abate was over the moon following his impressive submission victory over Japanese MMA icon 'Tobikan Judan' Shinya Aoki at ONE Fight Night 26: Lee vs. Rasulov on Prime Video last weekend.
Abate couldn't contain his excitement. He told Mitch Chilson:
"And it feels amazing. I always say I'm a student of the game so I'm always studying, always looking to evolve my game, and he's somebody that I've watched over the years especially having there being submissions named after him, I mean it doesn't get much better than that."
