Joe Rogan recently expressed his view regarding why MMA fighters such as Conor McGregor and Jon Jones, seemingly choose to consume drugs toward the end of their careers.

Rogan asserted that because of the damage that fighters sustain during their fighting careers, drugs make them feel good and calm their minds, which leads to their addiction to illegal substances.

For context, even though McGregor and Jones are widely regarded as superstars in the world of mixed martial arts, their reputations have been tarnished by their alleged use of illegal substances and 'Bones' being banned multiple times for it in the past.

During an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Rogan spoke to fitness educator and entrepreneur Derek Munro about several issues, including health and USADA. The UFC commentator then discussed why MMA fighters choose to consume drugs and gave the following explanation:

''A lot of fighters, especially towards the end of their careers, turn to drugs. I think there's probably a constant state of discomfort that they live in where their dopamine levels are all f**ed up, their cortisol levels are all f**ed up. You're not supposed to get punched in the head a thousand times a year.''

Rogan added:

''You've got consistent trauma to your f***ing dome over and over and over again. Then you get a little bit of coke... and you're feeling good again. I bet you get addicted to it. The guy [Conor McGregor] obviously likes extreme things, which is why he's such a great fighter. They're wild people. It's why Jon Jones likes cocaine too.''

As for the MMA scene, McGregor is expected to return next year after his octagon comeback against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 was canceled due to the Irishman injuring his toe while training.

Meanwhile, Jones successfully defended his heavyweight title by securing a third-round knockout victory against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 last month.

Joe Rogan is skeptical about Conor McGregor's octagon return

Conor McGregor got himself in deep trouble last month as he was found liable for assaulting Nikita Hand at a Dublin Hotel in 2018.

In the aforementioned podcast, Joe Rogan discussed McGregor’s personal difficulties, pointing out that the Irish superstar's consumption of drugs during this stage raises serious questions regarding his mental health and his UFC comeback.

''I don’t know if Conor’s ever going to fight again. [I don’t] know the real details of that case. [And] I know his version of it, and her version of it, and what played out in the court, but the reality is that guy’s partying, and he’s partying real hard, and he talked about it in the court case...He was talking about cocaine. That was the whole thing.'' [1:11:19]
