Danielle Kelly's return in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 24 promises a high-stakes clash. Since she arrived at the ONE Championship, Kelly has only participated in high-profile contests, but this one is different.

Her first defense of the ONE atomweight submission grappling world championship comes against one of the most decorated competitors in the sport.

Brazil's Mayssa Bastos has a track record for proving herself to be the best and she's an expert at controlling a contest and capitalizing when the moment is right.

Kelly knows that to raise her hand on August 2 at Lumpinee Stadium, she must fight smart and make the most of her opportunities.

She spoke about her approach to this contest during a recent interview with ONE Championship:

"With me being aggressive and not giving her what she wants and not playing it safe, but just kind of not trying to give her what she wants because that's how she excels in her game. It's more like a patience game, and I'm just going to try and get my attacks in. And, hopefully, in a wrestling exchange, she wrestles me back."

Danielle Kelly has Mayssa Bastos scouted

Danielle Kelly is acutely aware of the game that Mayssa Bastos brings to the table heading into August 2.

She has seen the Brazilian control the pace of a match-up, and Kelly knows that this is something she can't afford to be swept up in.

Not letting Bastos dictate the action could be key to her defending her world championship, but that is far easier said than done.

Kelly has pulled off the upset many times in the past, but stopping her next opponent from picking up yet another accolade will be no easy feat.

ONE Fight Night 24 will air live in US Primetime, free of charge for Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
