Scottish knockout artist Nico Carrillo has long dreamt of being a world champion. It is something he is looking to finally realize in his title bid this week,
The 'King of the North' will battle fellow contender Nabil Anane for the interim ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title at ONE 170 on Jan. 24 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. In an Instagram post from ONE Championship ahead of the marquee event, Carrillo said:
"I've envisioned this for a long time. It will come true, Friday Night. 100%. I'm not leaving empty-handed. It's mine."

Carrillo was initially supposed to face reigning bantamweight Muay Thai world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9. 'The Kicking Machine,' however, had to withdraw in the lead-up because of injury.

Nico Carrillo packing a lot of momentum heading into ONE 170
Nico Carrillo has put himself in solid position for a world title shot by winning all of his four matches to date in ONE Championship. Furthermore, he has impressed in those wins, as all of them have come by way of knockout.
Carrillo made his promotional debut in April 2023 and impressed by stopping Furkan Karabag of Turkey in the third round of their showdown. He followed it up with back-to-back KO finishes of veteran Thai fighters Muangthai PK Saenchai and Nong-O Hama in June and December of the same year.
In his lone ONE match in June last year, the 'King of the North' was once again a TKO winner over Saemapetch Fairtex, who he knocked down three times in the second round on his way to the win.
It is the same lethal ability and killer instinct he is out to showcase in his showdown against Nabil Anane at ONE 170.
In Anane, Nico Carrillo is up against an opponent who is also on a hot streak, winning five straight matches after losing in his promotional debut.
