Eersel got into kickboxing as he was inspired by golden age fighters such as Peter Aerts and Ernesto Hoost. Now, 'The Immortal' is the inspiration for younger people to get into this sport. He is building a legacy and inspiring others.
While speaking to Beyond Kick, Eersel said:
"I’m in the middle of my career and you don’t really think that you inspire people. But it comes more and more on my page, that I’m an example for the younger generation. I try to teach them if I’m doing podcasts or interviews to do good and chase your dreams. Like I did. And it's important to live life and chase your dreams."
Regian Eersel inspired by golden age kickboxers
At ONE on Prime Video 3 on October 21, Regian Eersel will battle Thai knockout machine Sinsamut Klinmee for the inaugural ONE lightweight Muay Thai world title. The 29-year-old Dutch-Surinamese fighter is looking to make history as a two-sport world champion.
However, none of this would have been possible if he was not inspired to join kickboxing in the first place.
While speaking in an interview with VechtSport Info, he revealed that he became a kickboxer as he was motivated by viewing K-1 on television:
"It was the K-1 in Japan, I saw the big names like Peter Aerts, Tyrone Spong, Badr Hari, on television. And I was just back then, I was a teenager, I was like, 'Hey man, I want to do this also, you know, fighting in the ring in front of a lot of people and traveling around the world.' And that was my dream when I started with kickboxing and Muay Thai. And it's still a dream, and I'm I'm living my dream right now."
