Surinamese fighter Regian Eersel has found himself headlining a number of ONE Championship cards of late. It is something he is proud of and at the same time very grateful for.
'The Immortal' is once again featured in a main event when he tries to reclaim the lightweight kickboxing world title against reigning divisional king Alexis Nicolas at ONE Fight Night 25: Nicolas vs. Eersel II on Oct. 4 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
In an interview with MMA UK, which was uploaded on Sept. 12, Regian Eersel shared his thoughts on the many opportunities that ONE has given him to headline its world-class shows.
The 31-year-old Sityodtong Amsterdam standout said:

"True, true, true. For me, it's almost normal, but for most of the fighters, it's not normal to fight in the main event. But yeah, every time somebody reminds me of it, I'm thinking like, yeah, I'm fighting the main event each time. And it's one thing to be proud of and I'm definitely proud of myself and of my team, But yeah, every time somebody reminds me of it, I'm thinking like, yeah, I'm fighting the main ev of course, my trainers, my coaches. You see, hard work pays off. And yeah, you see it in me."

At ONE Fight Night 25, Regian Eersel is out for redemption after losing the ONE lightweight kickboxing world title to Nicolas by decision back in April. The defeat also saw him lose his standing as a double ONE world champion as he also holds the lightweight Muay Thai belt.
ONE Fight Night 25 will be broadcast over Amazon Prime Video to North American fans.
Regian Eersel crafting a different game plan for rematch with Alexis Nicolas
Regian Eersel admitted that he was outgun by Alexis Nicolas in their first encounter, which is why he is crafting a different game plan for their scheduled rematch at ONE Fight Night 25 on Oct. 4 in Thailand.
The Surinamese fighter lost the ONE lightweight kickboxing belt to 'Barboza' in their first meeting in April, in a match he said his opponent did well in stymieng his push. He is looking to turn things around in their reengagement next month.
Eersel told MMA UK in an interview:
"The strategy for this rematch is going to be way different than the strategy when I fought (Alexis) the first time. My training schedule stays the same, but the way I train, the details are different."
Eersel won the inaugural ONE lightweight kickboxing world title in May 2019 and successfully defended it four times before losing it to Nicolas.
