On July 5, ONE Championship will crown its first-ever ONE women's strawweight kickboxing world champion as Jackie Buntan and Anissa Meksen go head-to-head for the world championship opportunity.
The two kickboxing powerhouses will headline the ONE Fight Night 23 card inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. ONE Championship officially announced the news via their Instagram account, as they captioned the post with:
"BREAKING 🚨 Striking superstars Jackie Buntan and Anissa Meksen will throw down for the inaugural ONE Women's Strawweight Kickboxing World Title at ONE Fight Night 23 on Prime Video! 👑 Predictions? @jackiebuntan @anissameksen"
This will be the second crack for both Buntan and Meksen, after they previously dropped their world championship fights. The 26-year-old Filipino-American was defeated by Smilla Sundell in April 2022 at ONE 156 via unanimous decision during their ONE women's strawweight Muay Thai world title showdown.
On the other hand, Meksen came up short on her bid to win the ONE interim atomweight kickboxing world title against Phetjeeja last December at ONE Friday Fights 46.
Jackie Buntan and Anissa Meksen are looking to capitalize on their first headliner opportunity
For the first time in their ONE Championship careers, both Buntan and Meksen will be headlining a major event under the world's largest martial arts organization, and they are looking to maximize the opportunity by showcasing their elite-level striking skills on the global stage when the lights shine the brightest.
The Boxing Works representative wants to secure her seventh victory in the promotion after winning six of her first seven bouts and beating the likes of Nat Jaroonsak, Ekaterina Vandaryeva, Daniela Lopez, Amber Kitchen, Diandra Martin, and Martine Michieletto.
Meanwhile, 'C18' looks to pick up her fourth win in ONE Championship and add Buntan to her list of victims, which already includes Cristina Morales, Marie Ruumet, and Dangkongfah Banchamek.
ONE Fight Night 23 is available live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America in U.S. primetime on July 5.
