Jackie Buntan is preparing to step into her second world championship contest under the ONE Championship banner. The 27-year-old hopes to leave Lumpinee Stadium on Nov. 8 with gold wrapped around her waist for the first time during her run with the promotion.
Before we arrived at her facing off with Anissa Meksen for the inaugural ONE strawweight kickboxing world championship at ONE 169, Buntan was a highly regarded Muay Thai competitor at this weight.
After securing back-to-back wins on her arrival into ONE, the Filipino-American came up against Smilla Sundell in a clash for the division's inaugural Muay Thai crown.
The Swedish star was victorious in that meeting back in April of 2022, and though they've been booked for a rematch since, the pair are yet to cross paths once again.

Due to Sundell's staggering height, the former champion looks to be moving up a weight class. Despite their history with one another, Buntan has no desire to chase after her, as she revealed in a recent exclusive interview with Sportskeeda MMA:
"No, I have no interest in that. Strawweight is the perfect weight for me, I'm happy, I'm healthy, and strong at this weight. So there's no need for me to go up or down."
Jackie Buntan has enough on her plate at strawweight
Jackie Buntan is surely going to be kept busy at strawweight, which will make moving up a weight class unnecessary at this stage in her career.
Facing Anissa Meksen for the kickboxing title on Nov. 8 is a huge challenge that she is taking very seriously.
Working on her kickboxing skills has been a primary focus in the lead-up to this fight, but that doesn't mean she couldn't return to Muay Thai where the world championship is currently vacant.
Jackie Buntan has plenty of options in front of her, especially if she's able to secure the gold at ONE 169.
