Jackie Buntan feels compelled to "put on a solid performance" against Diandra Martin

Jackie Buntan plans to showcase the new era of Muay Thai against Diandra Martin at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video.

On May 5, ONE Championship will hold its first event on U.S. soil. Along with plenty of international superstars, the fight card features several American fighters, including Sage Northcutt, Mikey Musumeci, Tye Ruotolo, Alyse Anderson, Demetrious Johnson, and Buntan.

Buntan is the only American Muay Thai fighter competing at ONE Fight Night 10 and is hoping to put on an impressive performance. During an interview with ONE, the California native had this to say:

“I think being able to put on a solid performance, and an exciting one at that, lets fight fans know this is really the new era of Muay Thai.”

Buntan made her ONE debut in February 2021, defeating Nat ‘Wondergirl’ Jaroonsak by unanimous decision. After earning two more wins against Ekaterina Vandaryeva and Daniela Lopez, the American took on teenage sensation Smilla Sundell for the inaugural ONE women’s strawweight Muay Thai world championship.

Things didn’t go as planned for Buntan, leading to a unanimous decision loss against Sundell. The 25-year-old bounced back in December 2022 with a dominant win against Amber Kitchen.

Jackie Buntan discusses the pressure of competing against Diandra Martin at ONE Fight Night 10

Jackie Buntan hasn’t fought in North America in four years. Although she is excited for the opportunity, there is added pressure when competing in front of friends and family.

During an interview with ONE, Buntan was asked about feeling the pressure ahead of ONE Fight Night 10. The 25-year-old responded by saying:

“A hundred percent [there is pressure]. It’s not like the pressure where it’s keeping me up at night and I can’t eat. But yeah, it’s in the back of my head.”

Buntan has been matched up against Diandra Martin. The Australian-born fighter made her promotional debut in February 2022, losing to Smilla Sundell by a third-round knockout. Six months later, the 27-year-old proved she belonged in ONE by taking out Amber Kitchen with an impressive performance. Martin hopes to continue building momentum with a win on May 5.
