Jackie Buntan says fighting spirit came from growing up in California: “It’s in my blood”

Filipina-American striking star and former ONE world title challenger Jackie Buntan believes that the reason she is who she is today, is because she grew up as a fighter in California.

Buntan, who comes from an immigrant Filipino family living in the United States, has spent all her life basking in the warmth of sunny California. This is where she got her edge and developed her fighting spirit.

Speaking to ONE Championship in a recent interview, Buntan talked about her upbringing.

The 27-year-old said:

"I’m never one to fight through. If things happen, that happens for a reason. I’m not going to fight that. But yeah, growing up in Cali, it’s in my blood. I think anybody who knows me knows I’m definitely a Cali girl."

Jackie Buntan is ready to go for the gold when she returns to action against decorated kickboxing icon 'C18' Anissa Meksen of Algeria and France.

27-year-old Jackie Buntan is gearing up to step into the ring with her toughest opponent yet in Algerian-French legend 'C18' Anissa Meksen at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug on Prime Video.

The Filipina-American star believes she needs to bring the fight to Meksen in order to disrupt her opponent's rhythm.

She said:

"The plan is to get in there and make it a fight, you know. Do what I do, be Jackie, and fight how I fight, but it’s gonna be a different look this time under kickboxing rules."
