ONE strawweight Muay Thai fighter Jackie Buntan said Boxing Works teammate Janet Todd expects a tough stand from Allycia Hellen Rodrigues in their unification bout this week and is ready for it.
Interim atomweight Muay Thai world champ Todd will face off with reigning division queen Rodrigues for the right to be hailed as the undisputed world champion in the co-headlining fight of ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video on March 24 in Singapore. Janet Todd, who is also the ONE atomweight kickboxing world champion, is looking to become a full-fledged two-sport world champion after seizing the interim Muay title belt last July.
Speaking to ONE Championship, Jackie Buntan shared that 'JT' was hard at work in training as she is expecting a high-level fight from Rodrigues in their unification showdown at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The 25-year-old Filipino-American fighter said:
“Maybe [she] has a completely different arsenal that she's built up in those two years, which is very much so could be the case. She's a high-level athlete. I don't doubt that. So yeah, you just got to worry about yourself. We know at that level that they're at champion versus champion. We know that they're both game.”

Jackie Buntan was with Todd every step of the way in the interim champion’s preparation for Rodrigues, who was away from the competition for two years as she gave birth and took care of her son.
Apart from lending a hand to her teammates, Buntan also used the training session with 'JT' as part of her own preparation for her match at ONE Championship’s first live event in the United States in May against Australia’s Diandra Martin.
All ONE Fight Night events are broadcast live and for free to North American fans with an active Prime Video subscription.
Jackie Buntan says Janet Todd’s intelligence as an aerospace engineer translates to her fighting
Muay Thai star Jackie Buntan is not at all surprised that Boxing Works teammate and friend Janet Todd is having a lot of success in ONE Championship as she is one of the more intelligent fighters on the roster.
The Filipino-American striker said Todd’s career as an aerospace engineer outside of the competition reflects how she approaches her craft as a fighter and is effectively setting her apart from the others.
In a recent interview with ONE Championship, Jackie Buntan provided further explanation on how 'JT' works, saying:
“Of course, with all her past fights as well. She's not just smart outside in her actual career as an aerospace engineer, but that really transfers over to how she trains and perceives things when we're in training, which is cool to see.
Jackie Buntan continued:
“We're kind of the opposite that way, but how she inputs and computes things together. She's able to kind of think quickly on the fly, which is a huge thing as an athlete, especially someone in combat sports. That's a hard thing for a lot of people to do. And for her, it kind of just seems second nature. It's easy for her to do, which is awesome.”
ONE interim atomweight Muay Thai world champion Janet Todd will face off against reigning division queen Allycia Hellen Rodrigues in a unification bout at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video on March 24 in Singapore. She is seeking to add the Muay Thai gold to her kickboxing strap to become a full-fledged two-sport world champion.
