Filipino-American star Jackie Buntan believes that Janet Todd’s professional career outside of Muay Thai gives her an intellectual advantage when she fights.

‘JT’ Janet Todd is on the verge of challenging Allycia Hellen Rodrigues for the ONE atomweight Muay Thai world title this Friday at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video. As such, Boxing Works teammate and long-time friend to Todd, Jackie Buntan, explained exactly what sets Todd apart from the rest of her competition.

Speaking to ONE Championship this week, the MMA fighter said:

“Of course, with all her past fights as well. She's not just smart outside in her actual career as an aerospace engineer, but that really transfers over to how she trains and perceives things when we're in training, which is cool to see.

She continued to explain:

“We're kind of the opposite that way, but how she inputs and computes things together. She's able to kind of think quickly on the fly, which is a huge thing as an athlete, especially someone in combat sports. That's a hard thing for a lot of people to do. And for her, it kind of just seems second nature. It's easy for her to do, which is awesome.”

Muay Thai fans are excited to watch another technical and cerebral fight when Janet Todd collides with Allycia Hellen Rodrigues on Friday, March 24 at ONE Fight Night 8. American fans can watch the event live and for free via Amazon Prime Video.

Janet Todd intends on defending either the Muay Thai or kickboxing belts after Rodrigues

Janet Todd doesn’t want to plan too far ahead, but she would like to defend both of her belts after Allycia Hellen Rodrigues.

The American striker rose to superstardom after she avenged a decision-loss to Stamp Fairtex in February 2020 for the ONE atomweight kickboxing world title. The pathway to success wasn’t as smooth as she would have liked, but she found a way regardless of all the setbacks she experienced.

Capturing her second belt in Muay Thai only last year, Todd knows that the hard work doesn’t end there now that she’s achieved double-champ status. Answering questions at the ONE Fight Night 8 press conference this week, Todd said:

“Yeah, I mean, whichever belt. I want to defend both Muay Thai and kickboxing. I don’t really have an opponent in mind right now, I’m just focused on what’s in front of me, which is, you know, Allycia, for the world title.”
