Jackie Buntan says ONE’s arrival in the U.S. is ‘a big win’ for local Muay Thai community

Former strawweight world title challenger Jackie Buntan sees ONE Championship’s landmark live on-ground event in the United States in May as a boon to those in the Muay Thai community.

ONE is set to descend on North America for the first time on May 5 by way of ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video at the 1stBank Center in Colorado.

Filipino-American fighter Jackie Buntan is part of the U.S. card, facing off against Australian striker Diandra Martin in a featured strawweight Muay Thai showdown.

Speaking to ONE Championship, the Body Works affiliate shared the kind of impact the promotion’s Colorado show will have on Muay Thai stakeholders like them in the States and on further growing the “art of eight limbs.”

Jackie Buntan said:

“Of course, there’s Muay Thai in the states, local shows. When I was an amateur, I competed in empty gyms or little local casinos with crowds of 50 or 100 people. But the only big fights you can see here in the States are all MMA fights. So for fans within the Muay Thai community, this is a big win for us. But fans outside of the community, they really don’t know what they’re in for.”

25-year-old Buntan’s last fight was back in December in Manila, where she defeated United Kingdom’s Amber Kitchen by unanimous decision. It was her fourth win in five fights since debuting in ONE in February 2021.

Canberra fighter Diandra Martin, meanwhile, seeks to make it back-to-back wins after defeating Kitchen as well by UD in August last year.

ONE Fight Night 10 is headlined by the trilogy fight between reigning ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson and former division king Adriano Moraes. It will be aired live and for free to all North American fans with an active Prime Video subscription.

Jackie Buntan happy to represent the US in home soil for the first time in four years

Muay Thai star Jackie Buntan is excited to represent The Star-Spangled Banner in ONE Championship’s first-ever live on-ground event in the United States in May.

The Body Works fighter will collide with Australia’s Diandra Martin in a strawweight Muay Thai encounter at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video on May 5 in Colorado.

It will mark the first time in four years that Jackie Buntan is competing on home soil, which is why she is pumped to perform in front of the hometown fans. The last time she fought in the U.S., she was still an amateur.

She expressed her excitement on Instagram, writing:

“It’s that time again 👀 it’s been 4 years since I’ve fought on my home soil… time to rep that west on @onechampionship first ever US card”

ONE Fight Night 10 is bannered by three world title fights, led by the championship clash between reigning ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson and former division king Adriano Moraes.

Apart from Johnson and Buntan, other US athletes seeing action in the event are ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci, Sage Northcutt, Tye Ruotolo and Lowen Tynanes.
