Jai Opetaia puts on a masterclass against Jack Massey
From the opening sequence, Jai Opetaia quickly asserted himself in the fight, dominating the center of the ring and applying consistent pressure on Massey. Although Massey managed to land a solid right hand to the body, his offense was insufficient to pose a threat to Opetaia.
The champion’s control became apparent early on, with Opetaia's powerful right hook forcing Massey into a defensive position. His sharp footwork kept him just out of reach as Massey struggled to connect with his body shots.
As the fight progressed, Opetaia amplified the pressure and landed some solid combinations. His defense continued to thwart any offensive efforts from Massey. Towards the end of the fifth round, Massey found himself trapped once more, struggling to find space to mount any effective offense.
As the sixth round unfolded, Massey went into survival mode, throwing everything he had at Opetaia, but to no avail. Instead of making an impact, he absorbed more punishment, prompting his corner to throw in the towel and stop the fight.
With this emphatic victory, Opetaia retained his title and is now set to face the winner of the upcoming bout between Chris Billam-Smith and Gilberto Ramirez.
