In July 2022, Opetaia separated himself as the face of the cruiserweight professional boxing division by claiming the IBF title. The undefeated Aussie has continued building his platform by racking up wins, including a unanimous decision against Mairis Briedis during the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk undercard in May.

Opetaia's latest test comes against Jack Massey, an English cruiserweight with a 22-2 professional record. Massey has bounced back with two wins following a unanimous decision defeat against Joseph Parker at heavyweight. Massey now looks for the biggest win of his career as a massive underdog against Opetaia.

Opetaia vs. Massey is one of several intriguing matchups featured on the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol undercard. The event, which goes down on Saturday, October 12, is promoted by Matchroom and Top Rank and takes place inside the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia.

Jai Opetaia vs. Jack Massey

Round 1:

Jai Opetaia vs. Jack Massey is underway. Massey explodes forward with a right hand that doesn't find the target. Opetaia is inching forward. Opetaia goes down to the body with a straight left hand. Massey is temporarily trapped in the corner.

Opetaia pushes Massey back with another straight punch. Opetaia changes levels with his straight punches. Massey is pushed into the corned. This time, Opetaia capitalizes by inflicting some damage.

Massey hasn't adjusted yet to Opetaia's forward pressure. Opetaia puts a combination together featuring a left punch to the head and a right down to the body. Massey finally fires back with a right to the body. Massey finds the target up top with a right hand. Opetaia takes back the momentum with a right to the hand.

Round 2:

Jai Opetaia opens with a big straight body punch. Jack Massey is starting to push back and establish his own attack. Opetaia quickly slows down Massey with his power. Opetaia's commitment to the body could pay dividends later.

Opetaia catches Massey in the corner and throws out an uppercut. Opetaia's straight punches to the body can't miss right now. Massey needs to earn some respect because Opetaia is pushing forward and firing off power punches.

Opetaia drops down the body. Massey is having his best round in the fight thus far. Opetaia sneaks in a right hook. Opetaia explodes forward and unloads a combination while Massey is against her ropes. Massey seems to be getting slightly frustrated by Opetaia's endless forward pressure.

Round 5:

Jack Massey's heart is on display as Jai Opetaia hasn't slowed down for a second. Massey and Opetaia clinch temporarily. Massey launches a three-punch combination to try and establish momentum. Opetaia takes back the momentum almost immediately.

Massey is sitting on the ropes a little too long and Opetaia is making him pay. Someone might have to eventually step in and save Massey from himself. Opetaia stuns Massey with a right hand. Massey is up against the ropes again. Opetaia is picking his shots beautifully and controlling the distance.

Massey has severe damage under his left eye. The round ends in the clinch.

Round 6:

Jai Opetaia starts the round with a jab to the body and then the head. The damage on Massey's face is becoming a problem. Opetaia continues to push forward, showcasing his defense with movement and his power with his combinations.
