In his last boxing outing in April last year, Garcia took on Devin Haney at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. The 25-year-old dropped Haney thrice and after 12 rounds of intense action, Garcia was declared winner via majority decision.
However, the decision was overturned after Garcia tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance Ostarine during the fight. This elicited harsh reactions from the boxing community, including Haney and his father Bill Haney, who sued 'King Ry' in September last year for alleged fraud and breach of contract.
But Garcia has continuously denied using drugs and asked Bill to admit his son's loss gracefully. Garcia was expected to face Japan's Rukiya Anpo in an exhibition boxing contest on Dec. 30 last year, however, their bout was postponed after the American suffered from an injury.
Ryan Garcia is set for a trilogy fight against Devin Haney according to several reports
Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney are anticipated to put aside their differences and agree to a three-fight series, according to Boxing Scene. A non-binding offer prepared by a Saudi Arabia's event company Sela has already been signed by the two fighters.
The boxing news outlet claimed that Garcia and Haney are expected to face each other in a rematch in October and a potential trilogy fight in February next year, after positive discussions with Turki Alalshikh in London.
