Now that Paul's switch over to MMA from boxing is all but complete, the head coach of the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) has revealed whether or not he would be interested in training Jake Paul.
In a recent interview with The Schmo, Mendez was asked if he would have Jake Paul at AKA as his pupil. He replied:
"I don't know. He's never asked. He's mentioned it on social media but he's never asked us... There's a routine we go through to get accepted. They'd have to go through the coaches and the fighters.
"If there's any particular fighter in our camp that doesn't want disruption from that individual, he won't get allowed in... I'd ask the coaches and have a team meeting and we'll talk about it."

It's not surprising that Jake Paul would want to train under the tutelage of Javier Mendez considering the illustrious alumni that have honed their craft under him. Some of the most notable fighters who trained under the AKA coach include Daniel Cormier, Khabib Nurmagomedov, B.J. Penn, Frank Shamrock and Luke Rockhold.
Jake Paul claims Tommy Fury is avoiding him despite a $2.5 million offer for a boxing match
It seems Jake Paul has not given up chasing a matchup against Tommy Fury as he recently claimed that Fury is being offered $2.5 million to face him in the boxing ring. 'The Problem Child' and Tyson Fury's younger half-brother have already had two of their previous bookings fail to materialize.
In a tweet, sports commentator Wade Plem recently claimed to have learned about the purse amount via a source who had firsthand knowledge of the negotiation. The 25-year-old addressed the tweet by quote-tweeting:
"I cannot confirm nor deny this accurate statement. What I can confirm is Tommy Fury is never going to see the kind of money he is being offered to step in the ring with me. And yet he’s still on the run. #Boxer."
It remains unclear if this matchup will take place in the future, especially considering Paul's new venture into the world of MMA. While the YouTuber-turned-boxer has previously defeated retired MMA stars in the square ring, he will face a whole new set of challenges in the octagon.
