Jake Paul has faced backlash from combat sports fans after making a derogatory remark to a reporter who criticized him for not fighting 'real' opponents in his weight class. The YouTuber-turned-boxer received a lot of flak for failing to provide a clear answer to the reporter's question.
This Friday, Paul will lock horns with Mike Tyson in an eight-round heavyweight contest at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. During a recent press conference at Toyota Music Factory in Irving, Texas, one reporter chastised the 27-year-old for facing much older opponents throughout his professional boxing career.
The individual then asked Paul about facing serious contenders. In response, the star boxer reverted the question to the reporter, asking if he believes Tyson isn't a legitimate fighter. Boxing journalist Michael Benson took to X and shared the interaction between the two, where Paul said:
''I think you are the same dumba** from the other venue, asking the same dumba** question.''

One fan mocked Paul, writing:
''He scared of that question''
Another urged Paul to fight someone of his age, writing:
''I support Jake, but that reporter has a point. Jake keeps responding with "But Mike Tyson is a real boxer!" Yeah, Jake, he was. 40 years ago. You're fighting a 58-year-old man now. Fight someone your own age. Do the Tommy Fury rematch.''
Other fans wrote:
''Literally the question everyone is wanting answered but Jake keeps deflecting and fighting retired boxers, plumbers, electricians etc''
''I wish that guy would have stayed on the mic to explain it's not any disrespect to Mike, he is a legend, but realistically, he should be fighting contenders his age not in their late 50s''

Michael Bisping discusses Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson matchup
In the aforementioned press conference, Jake Paul was criticized for not fighting serious contenders. Additionally, Paul was mocked by former champion Tony Bellew, who asked the 27-year-old to fight an old man standing next to him.
Among the several critics was Michael Bisping, who recently posted a YouTube video, in which he asserted that the entire boxing community would bash Paul if he doesn't respect Tyson's age.
''He [Paul] should go out there and play the game. He should go out, keep him on the end of the jab, have a nice little move around, all in fun and games. All in a nice competitive spirit. Give the people there, all sixty thousand of them apparently...He's not going to respect the fact that he is 58 years old. No, he's gonna go out there and prove that he's the baddest man on the planet. No, that just proves that he's a delusional bully."
