Jake Paul has just dismissed the possibility of facing Canelo Alvarez in a boxing match. The Mexican star recently spoke about being motivated to avenge Mike Tyson's loss to 'The Problem Child.' Unfortunately, his statement sat less than well with Paul, who claimed that he would not give Alvarez the opportunity.

He addressed the usual talking points his detractors bring up when assessing his boxing career: that he predominantly fights smaller fighters several weight classes below him and is alleged to pay his opponents off to take a dive. For this reason, Paul is in no hurry to face Alvarez.

"Why the fu*k would I give him the payday? When I beat him it would be the same bullsh*t and lies...that Canelo was too small and Jake Paul paid him off."

While the fight-fixing allegations are certainly damning and unsubstantiated, the reality is that Paul does indeed select opponents who are smaller than him. Moreover, he tends to select fighters who are both smaller and significantly older than him. His recent bout with Tyson is arguably the most egregious example.

Although Tyson is one of heavyweight boxing's all-time greats, so an argument that he is weight classes smaller than Paul cannot be used. Tyson was 58 years old when they crossed swords, while Paul was 27, making the age difference between them 31 years.

This was a point of tremendous criticism ahead of the pair's bout, especially when Tyson's health issues were taken into account. As many had expected, Paul defeated Tyson come fight night, but his performance was widely criticized as lackluster.

Jake Paul had a different tune about fighting Canelo Alvarez

Right after defeating Mike Tyson, Jake Paul addressed his next fight in the post-fight interview. When the suggestion of a possible matchup with Canelo Alvarez was brought up, 'The Problem Child' expressed a more open attitude to facing him than he is now.

"Canelo needs me, so I'm not even going to try and call him out. He knows he wants a payday, so he knows where the money man's at."

Alvarez is one of several high-profile fighters that Paul has expressed an interest in boxing, so there's no telling who he might face next.
