Chris Curtis suffered a controversial TKO loss to Roman Kopylov last night at UFC Vegas 101. Naturally, the defeat hasn't sat well with him, but he has earned some words of encouragement from former UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill, who replied to his recent Instagram post.
The middleweight standout engaged his Russian foe in a back-and-forth affair, with round one going Kopylov's way, while the second was far more competitive. In the end, with just one second remaining in round three, Curtis was knocked down by a head kick and referee Mark Smith opted to wave the fight off.
"Only job in the world where you can make 200k in a night and still be absolutely heartbroken and and questioning where you go from here. No damage, I'm fine. Probably train tomorrow for my sanity but just frustrated and heartbroken. 8 months off. Hamstring tear, broken foot and then a calf tear. Trained through it all.Never lost sight of the goal. Just hurts to come up short."

Curtis' full statement can be seen on his Instagram post. It drew tremendous support from the MMA community, many of whom felt that the stoppage was unjust. Of those who shared some kind words with him was ex-UFC 205-pound titleholder Jamahal Hill.
While Hill is in the midst of training for an important matchup at UFC 311, where he faces Jiří Procházka, he has taken the time to pen a consoling message for a disheartened Curtis, from whom he is taking inspiration.
"Brotha you inspire tf outta me every time you perform is must see tv!!! I'm gutted for you for what happened but I'm proud and honored to have witness it!!! What ever is next I can't wait and will be front and center!!"
Regardless, Curtis' loss to Kopylov has left him on the second-worst run of his career. He is 1-3 (1) in his last five fights, with his other losses being a split-decision to Brendan Allen and a unanimous decision loss to Kelvin Gastelum.
Jamahal Hill was critical of the Roman Kopylov vs. Chris Curtis stoppage
After a competitive bout that saw Roman Kopylov gradually pull away, Chris Curtis seemed destined to suffer either another split-decision loss or a draw. However, with one second left in the fight, he was floored by a head kick, and the referee immediately called the TKO win.
As expected, many fighters had thoughts on the bout, including Jamahal Hill.
"You don't call that terrible stoppage!!!"
Unfortunately, the outrage surrounding it will likely lead to nothing.
