Jamal Yusupov isn’t taking too much stock in Tawanchai PK.Saenchai’s recent performances inside the circle ahead of their fight.
At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, the ONE featherweight Muay Thai world championship is on the line as Yusupov looks to dethrone the reigning world champion in his first world title defense.
2022 was a breakout year for Tawanchai. Not only did he win the world championship, he was announced as the 2022 Muay Thai Fighter of the Year in ONE Championship after producing three consecutive victories.
Whilst Tawanchai has a lot of momentum behind him coming into this fight, Jamal Yusupov does not expect this to play a part on February 24 at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

In an interview with the promotion, Yusupov said:
“I would not say that Tawanchai’s recent activity would play any role in our fight. I am preparing for this fight very seriously. The training camp went well. I am ready both mentally and physically. I am focused on this fight 100 percent now.”
The 39-year-old Russian is on a good streak of his own. With three consecutive wins under the ONE banner, Yusupov is the No.2-ranked featherweight contender and can’t be taken lightly by the newly crowned world champion.
ONE Fight Night 7 is available live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.
WATCH: Jamal Yusupov upsets legendary Muay Thai fighter Yodsanklai
Jamal Yusupov had a long run before finding himself in a world championship matchup in ONE Championship.
In November 2019, he announced himself to ONE fans with a debut win at ONE: Age of Dragons. Facing the legendary Yodsanklai was a tough start to life under the ONE banner, but Yusupov grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Coming into the fight as the underdog, he pulled off the shock result by knocking his opponent out in the second round. ONE Championship recently posted the highlights of his debut performance alongside the caption:
“Before Turkish striking sensation Jamal Yusupov challenges ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK.Saenchai on February 24, relive his shocking finish of Thai legend Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex in 2019!”
With the momentum of taking out a legend like Yodsanklai in impressive fashion, he followed it up with wins over Samy Sana and Jo Nattawut to earn his shot at the reigning ONE featherweight Muay Thai world champion Tawanchai PK.Saenchai.
