Jared Cannonier got back to winning ways on Saturday night as he beat Sean Strickland at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The last fight of the calendar year was a close one as the pair fought for five rounds, albeit mainly on their feet. Cannonier showed off his technical ability by out-striking and out-landing his opponent, as well as being the more effective fighter.
In an interview following the fight, he revealed that Strickland did exactly what he thought he would do. But there was one thing he did not expect:
"No, he did exactly what I thought he was gonna do and to great effect. So all respect to Sean [Strickland], he talks his talk and definitely walks his walk....The one thing I didn't see coming was that up kick. I think it was in the second round, he kicked me with that up kick. But other than that, everything I saw coming, even the shots that I covered up."
'The Killa Gorilla' was pretty confident that he would win if the fight went to the judges' scorecard, despite the recent controversy surrounding judging at UFC fights. The fight was a good rebound win after Jared Cannonier's loss to Israel Adesanya earlier this year. He is one of the best fighters in the division and this win will definitely get him closer to another title shot.

Jared Cannonier talks about how he will size up against current champion Alex Pereira
Jared Cannonier is back to winning ways and is looking for his next title shot. The current champion is Alex Pereira, the man who knocked out Israel Adesanya for the second time in his career. In the same interview, he spoke about how he would stack up against the new champion and how he would fight him:
"A striker's delight, you know. He's long and strong, so I'd have to definitely be a well-rounded fighter. I would say that he has more experience striking, world kickboxing champion, UFC champion. So I would have to be a well-rounded fighter, but I know I can do that, that's one thing I've been working on every day in the gym. So I look forward to that fight in the future."
Alex Pereira is currently regarded as one of the best strikers in the sport, with a deadly left hand as part of his arsenal. However, fighting as a kickboxer for most of his career, his ground game has not been tested yet, and it could be something a fighter like Jared Cannonier could exploit.
