After controversially losing on the scorecards in his last outing, Jared Gordon has called for a matchup against a former interim lightweight champion and 21-fight UFC veteran for his next outing.

'Flash' didn't get the nod on the judges' scorecards last time out against Paddy Pimblett despite the majority of the MMA community believing that he should have gotten his hand raised on the night. Pimblett kept up his winning ways by claiming a decision victory but lost some stock after struggling against the unranked 155'er.

While discussing what's next for himself, Jared Gordon told Michael Bisping that he expects to stand across the octagon from Tony Ferguson in a fight that he believes "makes sense" for both:

"I probably gained way more fans this way [how the result against Pimblett played out] and I spoke to Dana after and he was like, 'Look. You literally came out with the best circumstance that could have ever happened.' I text my manager and I was like, 'Give me Tony Ferguson.' I think it makes sense. I think it makes sense for me to get a fight like that."

'El Cucuy' is currently enduring the worst run of form of his 14-year fight career. He hasn't won since 2019, losing five straight bouts and suffering his first-ever knockout loss. Despite the losses, he is arguably still one of the most beloved competitors on the UFC roster.

Does Tony Ferguson vs. Jared Gordon makes sense?

Despite his poor performances inside the octagon, Tony Ferguson has faced nothing but elite fighters and top-ranked opponents. He could benefit from taking a step back and facing a fellow veteran in his weight class.

While Gordon may not be the biggest name in the division, his recent surge in popularity should earn him a chance to face a bigger name.

If the two were matched up, Ferguson would be putting his spot in the rankings on the line. However, it'd also grant him a good chance at returning to the winners' column for the first time since his dominant win over Donald Cerrone.
